3 Siemens HiPath 3000 Settings

3.1 Siemens HiPath prerequisites.

  • HiPath 2000 V2.0
  • HiPath 3000 V7.0 or later
  • HiPath OpenOffice EE
  • HiPath OpenOffice ME V1

3.2 Configuring voipGATE trunks on Siemens HiPath

Configuration is carried out using HiPath 3000 Manager E, download the latest KDS from the system before continuing. It is assumed that basic Siemens HiPath 3000 configuration has already been carried out.

a) Routes Tab.

In the Lines/Networking tab go to the Routes tab (“Richtungen”) select Trunk Group 12. Change the Route Name (“Richtungsname”) to identify the Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP) used that is Voipgate.
NOTE: Only trunk group 12, 13, 14 and 15 can be used for voipGATE configuration.

Enter the voipGATE number circled below in red and choose to route all calls over the DSP. (“Immer DSP benutzen”)

b) Routing Parameters.

On the Routing Parameters (“Richtungsparameter”) tab ensure all settings are set as per the screenshot below.

c) Least Cost Routing.

In the Least Cost Routing tab go to the Codes and flags tab select “en-bloc sending”.

d) Dial Plan.

Configure the Dial Plan according to your inbound & outbound dialling plan requirements.
NOTE: Certain types of calls cannot be routed over voipGATE e.g. emergency calls, fax and modem traffic.  Check with voipGATE for any other restrictions. Make sure that these types of calls are routed via the PSTN.

e) Dial Rule.

Using the Dial rule wizard ensure that the Dial rule is set to “Main network supplier” with an appropriate Dial rule format setting.

3.3 Configuring Siemens HiPath Gateway (HG1500/STMI2)

Configuration is carried out using WBM. It is assumed that basic HiPath HG1500/STMI2 configuration has already been carried out.

3.3.1.    Go to the Explorers > Routing > IP Routing screen, click “+” to expand the IP Routing tree, right-click Default Router and select Edit Default Router.
Change Default Routing via to LAN using the drop-down list and enter the IP Address of Default Router on the customers’ LAN. Click Apply.

3.3.2.     Right-click DNS Settings and select Edit DNS Settings. Enter the IP address of DNS Server, this can be either the DNS server of your LAN (if available) or the ISP DNS server. Click on the Apply button.

3.3.3. Go to the Explorers > Voice Gateway screen and click “+” to expand the SIP Provider tree. (Voipgate is not yet pre-configured as a SIP Provider within the Siemens HiPath)

3.3.4. To manually configure the SIP provider, right-click SIP Provider and select Add SIP Provider. Add voipGATE to the Provider Name box.
IMPORTANT Manually added SIP providers are deleted when the HiPath HG1500/STMI2 card software is upgraded. Ensure you make a note of the settings before upgrading the software.

3.3.5.    The configuration required for voipGATE is shown below. Also change the Callnumbertype as appropriate (see Note below). Click Apply.
NOTE: The Callnumbertype setting depends on the ITSP account type, set to MSN for a SIP Client Account or PABX number for a SIP Trunk Account.

The information required below should be provided in the Welcome Email from voipGATE.

3.3.6.    Right-click on voipGATE and select Add SIP User. Enter the ITSP account user name as both the SIP User and the SIP Authorization name and enter the ITSP account password in the New Password box and the Confirm Password box. (All information should be provided in the Welcome Email from voipGATE)

3.3.7.    If Callnumbertype is set to MSN (i.e. for a SIP Client Account) repeat step 3.3.6 until all SIP Client Accounts have been added.

3.3.8.    If Callnumbertype is set to PABX number (i.e. for a SIP Trunk Account) skip to step 3.3.11 as the DID range is not available here.

3.3.9.    Click “+” to expand the SIP provider name (voipGATE) and then click “+” to expand the SIP User added in step 3.3.6 (e.g. 27724501). Right-click DID ranges, select Add DID range and enter the details as per the Note below.
NOTE:  An ITSP will usually send the full national number (confirm with voipGATE at the time of ordering)
The national number is split between the Local area code and the PABX number to “create” the DID range, see example below & subsequent screenshot.

Country code
352
PABX number 27724
DID range 501 to 502

The HiPath HG1500/STMI2 will effectively “strip” the Local area code and PABX number from the incoming number to identify the DID number.

3.3.10.  Enter the station number to be assigned to the first DID number in the range into the Begin of internal Call Number range box. By checking the Assign direct inward dialling band automatically to stations flag this DID range will be assigned to stations starting at the station specified. If this flag is not checked the numbers have to be associated as shown in the next step. Click Apply.

3.3.11.  If the DID numbers have not been assigned automatically as described in step 3.3.8 they can now be assigned manually.
Right-click MSNs, select Add MSN and enter the FULL DID number into the DSL Call Number box. Select insert number directly from the Internal Call Number drop-down list and type the station or hunt group call number in the box below. Click Apply.

NOTE: The first entry found with the Default Entry flag checked determines the CLI used on outgoing calls made from this SIP provider when the station does NOT have a DID/MSN number assigned. This is similar to the base number used when dialling out on an ISDN trunk when the station does not have a DDI number assigned. This allows the called party to be presented with the DSL Call Number defined for this entry

3.3.12.  Go to the Explorers > Voice Gateway screen. Right-click SIP Parameters and select Edit SIP Parameters.
The Maximum possible Provider Calls value defines the number of simultaneous calls allowed for all SIP providers. The value entered depends on the bandwidth available via the customers Internet connection and the codec used. Click Apply.

3.3.13.  To activate this ITSP right-click on voipGATE and select Activate SIP Provider. An Information window will open; select the Provider designation in the system from the drop-down list to be the same value as entered in step 3.3.6 of the HiPath 3000 configuration. Click OK.

3.3.14.  Click on the Save  icon and then restart the HiPath HG1500 / STMI2 by clicking on the Reset  icon.

3.3.15.  Go back to the Explorers > Voice Gateway screen and click “+” to expand the SIP Provider tree. If the configuration is correct the folder for the SIP provider name and the SIP user will change to Green. This indicates that voipGATE is now activated and registered.
